How do I install a.app from the command line? Yes, I know that if the.app is a directory, I can just copy it.
That seems to work fine for Google Chrome and Firefox. However, now I want to script the install of Adobe Flash Player. It's a directory, but just copying it won't work.
Something in the execution of the installer fires off another installer inside the.app to install the plugin. I can get a little creative, manually figure this out, do some copying and moving and deleting and use installer to install the plugin. But the next time I need to do this with a different package, or if Adobe changes the contants of Flash Player, I'll be back to square one.
I'd like to know how to kick off this install with the same results as double-clicking it in Finder. I want to alunch the installer without the GUI. Just like, with a.pkg, you can double click on the installer and click-click-click your way through the install. Or you can run ' installer -pkg /path/to/installer.pkg -target /' That's what I want. The new FCP is too expensive and i don't even like it. Thanks so much for your help! Assuming that the locations of the files for Final Cut Express and FCP are the same/similar, I managed to get my FCE 3.5 to run in both lion and Mountain Lion by following this articla from Apple. It shows where all the files are located for an uninstall; I created the same folders and copied each and every file; then copied the lot to an external hard drive, then to the new Mac and put all the folders/files into the same locations.

FCPHD 4.5 is purely PowerPC and even if shoe-horned into a Lion Mac will not run on Lion without one of the known PPC workarounds. I've only used FCE and v. 3/3.5 is a universal application, so it does run in Lion and ML; however, the installer is PPC so it wouldn't install, but I circumvented that by manually moving all the files. My thesis is that the Installer app is NOT PPC, but the debate is largely academic given the alternative ways to install these programs (and Logic Pro 8, which suffers from the same problem).
